Kevin Bacon took a break from his normal acting duties to direct last night's (August 13th) episode of The Closer. The Closer stars Bacon's wife Kyra Sedgwick as a Los Angeles police detective who, in yesterday's installment, was taken off of active duty after a run-in with a serial killer.
The episode marked the second time that Bacon has stepped behind the camera for The Closer, and he said it was an easy gig to get because of his connections: "I know the show really well, obviously. I know the star pretty well, I know the rest of the cast and the creators and the crew because I've spent time on the set. It's a really, really nice fun place for me to work. Luckily enough, I did the first one and they liked it enough to have me come back since I'm shamelessly riding the coattails of my wife's success."
Bacon also said used directing tips he picked up from James Wan, the man behind Saw and Bacon's newest movie, Death Sentence: "One of the cool things about the episode that I got -- and you never know, you say, 'I'll take episode nine,' but you don't actually know what episode nine is going to be -- is it had a nice action sequence. And, you know, I was coming off of Death Sentence and really had tried to absorb as much as I could from James about, you know, interesting ways to do action so I was able to use some of those techniques in The Closer."
Death Sentence opens August 31st, and stars Bacon as an risk-assessor-turned-avenger.
