Jarhead and Garden State actor Peter Sarsgaard is sick with Lyme Disease. He contracted the bacterial infection through a tick bite while vacationing with fiancee Maggie Gyllenhaal and their baby Ramona on Martha's Vineyard. Gyllenhaal and child high-tailed it out of the Vineyard and back to their Brooklyn apartment as soon as Sarsgaard was diagnosed.
Lyme Disease is usually treated with antibiotics. A worst case scenario sees the infection spread to the joints, heart, and nervous system, according to the Centers For Disease Control.
Sarsgaard has appeared in dozens of movies including Boys Don't Cry, Shattered Glass, and K-19: The Widowmaker. Gyllenhaal's credits include Secretary, Stranger Than Fiction, and the upcoming Dark Knight, in which she takes over for Katie Holmes as Batman's main squeeze.
