Spyro Gyra
When the band started out in Buffalo NY, there was no name for the group. The beginnings of the band grew out of a weekly jam session at a club in Buffalo named Jack Daniel's. Since it was very informal, the weekly session was known only as "Tuesday Night - Jazz Jam". As the popularity grew, the club owner wanted to put a name of the group on a new sign that he had just bought for the front of the club. One late night, that owner was asking Jay to decide on a name for his sign. Jay jokingly said, "Call it spirogira." Spirogira is an algae that Jay had remembered from biology class that is commonly known as "pond scum." The next week, that name was on the sign incorrectly spelled as "Spyro Gyra." In short, it was a joke.   The band performs Saturday, June 23rd.  Visit their website at: www.spyrogyra.com

Nelson Rangell

Jazziz magazine writes that Nelson Rangell is "an artist of depth, a master of song, and an improviser non pareil." The Times of London notes "his extraordinary facility on a range of instruments and his undoubted virtuosity," adding that Nelson is "one of fusion's most accomplished exponents." Such praise is a confirmation of what contemporary jazz fans have known since the Denver based saxophonist emerged in the late 80s: that Rangell is one of the most exciting and diverse performers in the genre, equally adept at soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone, as well as being a genuine virtuoso on flute and piccolo.  Nelson wants you to come live the music, Saturday, June 23rd at the Smooth JazzFest!  Visit his website at: www.nelsonrangell.com

Paul Taylor
The unstoppable phenomenon of smooth jazz saxophonist Paul Taylor reached a fever pitch in 2004--“Steppin’ Out,” the irrepressible title track from his 2003 Top Ten Billboard Contemporary Jazz album, became Radio & Records’ third biggest genre airplay cut of the year, he performed and made his acting debut on the legendary ABC soap opera One Life To Live. Paul will be joined onstage by the unmistakable Regina Belle to perform his own explosive grooves. Regina Belle

New Jersey native Regina Belle grew up singing Gospel and Soul while also playing multiple instruments.  She then attended Rutgers University, where she studied both Jazz and Opera. Her big break came when she was introduced to the Manhattans and wound up touring with them and dueting with Gerald Alston on the group's "Where Did We Go Wrong" from their 1986 Back to Basics album.  Both the song (which was produced by Bobby Womack) and her performance were great, and the music industry took notice, even if the public wasn't yet aware of this rising Soul star.  She'll perform with Paul Taylor, Friday, June 22nd.  Come Live The Music!
