Singer Randy Crawford, who celebrated her 55th birthday on Sunday, has even more to celebrate this week. The veteran singer teamed up with noted smooth jazz pianist Joe Sample to release the new CD Feelin' Good this week. The new set represents a reunion for the duo, who have not appeared on a recording together in 30 years, when they made a mark with the Crusaders' hit "Street Life."
Crawford and Sample got the idea to go into the studio together again after doing some touring together in Europe with the reunited Crusaders. Crawford added that no one had to twist her arm to work with Sample again, and that she had a mission in rendering new versions of familiar tunes: "That was the whole point of going into the studio with Joe Sample. To make a record that makes a lot of sense musically, that expresses love, that expresses passion, that expresses growth, that expresses paying homage to people that we've known along the way. Expressing all those things, what I really think music is supposed to be about."
Sample and Crawford are expected to begin touring the U.S. this spring.
