Al Jarreau Jokes He's Jealous Of George Benson, Stevie Wonder

Grammy-winning singer Al Jarreau says that while he's still at the top of his game vocally, aging does take its toll on his prodigious talents. Recently performing some solo gigs in advance of his European tour with George Benson to promote their album Givin' It Up, the 66-year-old Jarreau told The Detroit Free Press that the face and the knees are not the only things to start to go.

"The voice -- that changes too. Except for George Benson, whom I just hate, and Stevie Wonder, whom I just hate too, their voices never change," Jarreau joked. "They always have those wonderful pure highs, but normal people, as you get older, the cords -- especially with more work, with more singing, with more talking, with more vocal production -- the cords just thicken. And you lose those sweet pretty highs that you once had. It's just typical of years. So it's just normal wear and tear on the instrument."

Jarreau and Benson picked up a Grammy Award in Los Angeles recently for their collaboration with Jill Scott on the track "God Bless The Child" from Givin' It Up. Scott also includes the tune on her new album Collaborations.

Their current single is a new version of "Mornin'," which was recently the Number One smooth jazz single at radio.
