Singer Toni Braxton has always spoken frankly about her life, her career, and motherhood, and in an interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine, she reveals that she recently underwent surgery to remove fibroid tumors. However, she rushed back to work within a week to her five-night-a-week gig, performing her Toni Braxton: Revealed show at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas.
"I'm sure I went back to work too soon... I didn't want to have to do make-up days," Braxton explained. "Contractually, with anything, you say I'm giving you this many shows. It was rough. If I wasn't doing this show, like the doctors say, I wouldn't be able to exercise for 21 days." To compensate, the 39-year-old Braxton says she took some of the dancing routines out of the show until she recuperates more.
As to her Las Vegas gig, Braxton says she's enjoying both the opportunity to entertain and the stability it gives her and her family with her husband, keyboardist and producer Keri Lewis. Oldest son Denim has started first grade, and younger son Diezel, who was diagnosed with autism, requires a regular routine.
"Sales are great. That's why they keep extending me," said Braxton of the Flamingo show. "I was only supposed to be there like a couple of months. It ended up being six months and now it's going on a year, and I've just extended for February, and I'm probably going to extend to at least September of next year."
In the meantime, Braxton is learning Spanish and spending time with her family. She explained, "It's just like I have a regular life, like a housewife-mother, and at night I'm a rock 'n' roller."
