Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has already snagged four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture. Johnny Depp was also nominated for Best Actor, and Helena Bonham Carter is in the Best Actress category. Tim Burton is up for the Best Director award. The Oscar nominations haven't been announced yet, but the Golden Globes often indicate who will be nominated for an Academy Award.
Regardless of the pre-release hype, Burton told us he doesn't concern himself with talk of Golden Globe or Oscar wins for Sweeney Todd: "The joy for me has been the film. Like I said, I feel lucky to have the opportunity to do this particular project with these particular people. For me, that's the reward I get. You know, these kind of projects don't come along all the time and so that's where I'm staying at the moment."
Depp and Burton have worked on six films together, starting with 1990's Edward Scissorhands.
Sweeney Todd is the new adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's gory musical about a barber who seeks revenge while cutting the throats of his customers -- and the lady downstairs neighbor who gets rid of the bodies by doing a booming business in meat pies.
