The joke was on the 75 guests at a summer party thrown by funny man Steve Martin on Saturday (July 28th). Instead of being part of a normal soiree, famous friends like Diane Keaton and Tom Hanks were instead witnesses to Martin's marriage to writer Anne Stringfield.

The surprise ceremony was held at Martin's Los Angeles home, and was presided over by former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels was Martin's best man, and other famous guests included American Pie dad Eugene Levy, Carl Reiner, and magician Ricky Jay.

The 61-year-old Martin met 35-year-old Stringfield through their interactions at the New Yorker magazine. They've been together for three years.

Martin's first wife was British actress Victoria Tennant, his co-star in All Of Me and L.A. Story. He was also involved with Anne Heche for years.
