Sixteen-Year-Old Jamie Lynn Spears Pregnant

Actress Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old sister of Britney Spears, is pregnant. The star of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 told OK! magazine in an exclusive interview, "I was in complete and total shock and so was he," of her discovery that she's pregnant by her live-in boyfriend, 19-year-old Casey Aldridge.

The 12-weeks-pregnant teen plans to keep the baby and raise it in her home state of Louisiana. "As soon as I found out for sure from the doctor, I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody. Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends," she said. "I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me." She told her mother, Lynne Spears, just before Thanksgiving and says that after the initial shock, she was quite supportive.

Her sister Britney may not have learned the news until after OK! magazine was going to press with the story. Her camp issued a statement saying "Britney is aware of the news regarding Jamie Lynn's pregnancy. She wishes her sister nothing but the best and asks for privacy during this time."

Studio execs at the kids channel Nickelodeon issued the following statement: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

The question the message this sends to her young fans is of concern to some, however. "I definitely don't think it's something you should do," Spears says, of pre-marital/teenage sex. "But I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."

Lynne Spears told OK!, "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

Surprisingly, Lynne Spears -- who is writing a parenting book for a Christian publisher -- has not spoken out about the 19-year-old Aldridge for impregnating her daughter, which may constitute statutory rape.

The New York Post's Page Six gossip column is reporting that Jamie Lynn and her mother attended a showing of the teen pregnancy comedy Juno in New York City on Monday.
