Ryan Seacrest Not Out To Prove Himself At The Emmys
American Idol's Ryan Seacrest is the first "straight man" to host the Emmy Awards in decades. The job usually goes to a comedian who is used to quipping at a moment's notice and is at ease with delivering an opening monologue. A week before the event, it's still a mystery if Seacrest can pull it off.
Seacrest is aware he'll be scrutinized at the September 16th show, and he assured reporters during a recent conference call that there will still be humor on the show despite his lack of experience in that arena: "There will be plenty of comedy. The good news is Lewis Black is going to be there, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, they're all going to be...Ellen...they've all rsvp'd. So fortunately, we know that there will be laughs within this three hours. I am not a stand-up comedian so I don't think I'm gonna go out and try and prove myself to be a late-night host in the first act of the Emmys."
Instead of the usual opening monologue, this year's Emmys are going to start with a musical number in which Seacrest may or may not sing.
The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards are next Sunday (September 16th) on Fox.
