Rick Braun Says Creative Stagnation A Problem In The Music Industry
Trumpeter Rick Braun and saxophonist Richard Elliot have a hit record on their hands with the chart-topping collaborative effort, R 'n' R. The album evolved from a series of informal, fun studio sessions with friends, with the intent to create in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere -- and the results were successful.
Braun says that if the rest of the music industry paid attention, they might have a change in fortunes -- he thinks that the actual problems within the music industry right now have less to do with changing technologies than with creative stagnation: "People want to hear creativity, and I think that's one of the problems in the music business right now, and why we're always complaining, 'Oh it's the Internet,' 'Oh it's this, oh it's that.' I think people are too concerned about making a perfect sounding piece of work and I think its more about the creativity and letting everybody be expressive."
Braun featured on the new Peter White Christmas album, featuring guitarist Peter White and saxophonist Mindi Abair. The trio are currently joining forces on the Peter White Christmas tour.
Remaining dates for this year's Peter White Christmas tour include:
December 18 - Austin, TX - One World Theatre
December 20 - Sacramento, CA - Radisson Hotel - Edgewater Ballroom
