Rick Braun Says 'R 'N R' Recalls Early Days With Richard Elliot
Trumpeter Rick Braun and saxophonist Richard Elliot have logged a Number One contemporary jazz album and a Number One smooth jazz single with the new CD R'n'R and its grooving title track. Braun says that the party feel of the material on R'n'R stems from the fact that they created the music in the studio from the ground up, with the help of such friends as Jeff Lorber, Philippe Saisse, Rex Rideout, and others.
Braun explained: "We didn't have any songs sitting around for years waiting for this to happen. We pretty much got into it as a garage band approach -- let's just get together and kind of look back at the time when neither one of us had a lot going on financially and music was really the main thing that kept us going in life."
The single "R'n'R" has spent two weeks atop the national smooth jazz airplay charts.
