Multi-talented performer Queen Latifah earned her first Golden Globe Award at the stripped-down ceremony held January 13th in Beverly Hills. Latifah earned the Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie prize for her role as an HIV-positive activist in the HBO drama, Life Support.
Because of the current writer's strike, the star-studded ceremony was scrapped. Instead, celebrities simply read the winners, some of whom sent in taped acceptances. Latifah was one of those who sent her comments via video.
"Life Support is such an important film which addresses such important issues, and I'm so proud to be recognized for my work in it. I only hope the film helps in our fight against AIDS and HIV," she said.
Latifah is currently starring with Diane Keaton and Katie Holmes in the comic caper Mad Money, which opens January 18th.
