O.J. Simpson is back in a Las Vegas jail after allegedly violating the terms of his bail by contacting one of his co-defendants in his sports-memorabilia robbery case. He was flown from Miami back to Nevada in the company of a bail bondsman after being taken into custody and delivered to the Clark County Detention Center on January 11th. A hearing is expected January 16th on a motion to keep Simpson behind bars until the April 7th trial.
According to the prosecution, Simpson left a voicemail message for bail bondman Miguel Perreira on November 16th, asking him to relay his frustration to co-defendant Clarence "CJ" Stewart about Stewart's testimony at a preliminary hearing in the case.
In a profanity-laced message, Simpson said he hoped Stewart wasn't changing his story. "I just want, want CJ to know that the whole thing all the time he was tellin' me that s--t, 'you know, I hope he was telling me the truth, don't be trying to change the mother f---ing s--t now," he said, in part.
Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, is angry about the prosecution using what he sees as a legitimate phone call between his client and his bail bondsman to revoke Simpson's bail. "He was clearly voicing frustration to a member of the defense team who had been providing security, transportation and investigation services," Galanter told AP. "(Perreira) is clearly now a witness for the prosecution."
An attorney for Stewart told the AP that his client was never contacted by Perreira or Simpson.
