Norah Jones Has A Wild Side

Grammy-winner Norah Jones may be known for her mellow groove, but the smooth jazz singer says she's got a "salty" side. She told Entertainment Weekly that because her favorite holiday is Halloween, she dressed like a member of ZZ Top at one gig last year. She also occasionally moonlights in a glam rock band called El Madmo, in which she plays electric guitar, clad in blond wig and fishnets.

Furthermore, the first record she ever bought wasn't Ella or Billie -- it was the 1990 rap single, "The Humpty Dance" by Digital Underground. And her first concert wasn't Ray Charles -- it was MC Hammer. She recalled that big event for us: "Oh, it was fun. I was 11. I went to see a lot of big band stuff when I was young. But as far as a big ol' concert, it was MC Hammer, oddly enough. He came down the aisle doing 'Hammer Time,' you know, in his pants, and I remember I was, like, 10 feet away from him, and I got so excited."

Jones admits the group El Madmo is just a fun way for her and her backup band to blow off steam at various New York City clubs, so don't expect an album anytime soon.

Jones hits the road in April in support of her newest album, Not Too Late. Her movie debut, My Blueberry Nights (with Jude Law and Natalie Portman) is out soon.
