Mick Hucknall On Choosing Tunes From Bobby 'Blue' Bland Catalog

Former Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall has released his solo album, Tribute To Bobby. The album is Hucknall's tribute to blues and soul singer Bobby "Blue" Bland, who had a profound influence on Hucknall when he was a teen.

Hucknall's lead single from the project, "Farther Down The Road," has leaped onto the smooth jazz radio chart at Number 21, becoming one of the most-added singles at radio across the country.

Bobby "Blue" Bland began recording in 1951 and has continued to release projects through 2003. Hucknall says that wading through his catalog to pick songs for the new album was a challenge: "We just tried to choose the ones that we thought we could do a sort of contemporary version of, you know, where the lyrics just remained understandable in a contemporary sense, as well as the melody and the grooves. We could have done another 10, easily, we could have done but this was our short list."

Hucknall is currently on tour in Europe where he is performing solo to promote Tribute To Bobby as well as performing final dates with Simply Red, which has decided to disband in 2008.
