Michael McDonald Adds Original Tunes To 'Soul Speak'
Singer Michael McDonald is preparing to release his new CD, Soul Speak, next March. As previously reported, the album will feature a collection of soul covers. The lead single is a cover of Burt Bacharach & Hal David's "Walk On By."
Soul Speak also features three original songs. McDonald explained why that worked: "Then there's three originals on there that somehow in their own strange way seem to fit on the records. So we would up cutting those tracks and in the end, the producer kind of put them up with the other tracks and goes, 'You know, it's odd but they really fit this collection of songs.' So we went ahead and put them on the album too."
Fans seems to respond to McDonald's voice whether he's performing the catalog treasures from his Motown and Motown 2 albums, or singing his original songs, like current duet hit "You Belong To Me" with Chaka Khan, from her Funk This CD.
The singer wraps up his brief On This Night holiday tour tonight, December 20th, with a show at Denver, Colorado's Paramount Theater.
