Michael Lington Says He Wanted Live Feel For 'Heat'

Michael LingtonSaxophonist Michael Lington says the idea behind his new CD Heat was to bring the heat of his stage shows into the studio. The idea was actually brought to him by fans who compared the energy of his live shows with his CDs.

Lington explained: "People always come up to me saying, 'What we experienced tonight why we can't have that on an album? It always seems like the albums that we get are that, but light, you know? They're very contained and very polished. Why can't we get some of that energy where all the musicians are just going back and forth?' So with that in mind I went in and recorded this with a rhythm section, almost treating this album as if it was a live album."

Lington is set to participate in the Smooth Jazz Cares benefit for hurricane relief, set for October 25th in Melbourne, Florida. The event is part of the Space Coast Jazz Festival.
