Songwriter, producer, and performer Maurice White is excited about his latest project, an all-star collection of the Earth, Wind & Fire songs he wrote being performed by an array of contemporary artists. The new album is titled Interpretations: Celebrating The Music Of Earth, Wind, & Fire and is due on the revived Stax label on March 27th.
Participating on the project are Chaka Khan, Lalah Hathaway, Ledisi, Angie Stone, Musiq, Bilal, Mint Condition, Dwele and others.
White says that the music of Earth, Wind & Fire and other bands of the '70s and '80s are simply timeless, which is why the tunes are finding favor with new artists again. He told us: "Well I think it's just very obvious that the music of the '70s and '80s was really something that has new life now, because a lot of the artists of today are doing material of that period. It's like that music will never die."
The first single from Interpretations is Kirk Franklin's version of "September."
