MTV Says Farewell To 'TRL'

MTV's Total Request Live completed its ten year run on the network with the special titled Total Finale Live, which aired lived from the company's Time Square studios on November 16th. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Fall Out Boy, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Kid Rock, Beyonce, the Backstreet Boys, and show hosts past and current were on hand to say good bye to a program widely considered the American Bandstand of today's youth. Returning to the 1515 Studios was Carson Daly, who told viewers how he helped build up TRL: "When I go here, you know, it wasn't a show. They said 'Hey, there's revolving doors downstairs. This is New York City. We've got this new studio. When your friends, when celebrities, when bands -- rap, rock, hip-hop -- when they come, make TRL their place. This is their home.' And I did. I was just like, hey, whoever, come on down, we're doing live TRL."

During the broadcast, Christina Aguilera credited TRL for helping make her a star: "What a time in my life. Everything was just starting to happen to me. I was so green and new to this scene and living, you know, a moment that I'd only been able to dream about for a number of years. TRL was such a huge thing and something that as an artist, it was like a staple. Like you made it once you got there and, you know, I just thank God for the start of many things in that moment."

Travis Barker, who was seriously injured in a plane accident in September, was yet another guest who appeared on Total Finale Live. Appearing via satellite, he told longtime TRL host: Damien Fahey he's back to playing drums: (Fahey) "What was it like sitting down on the kit for the first time after the accident?" (Barker) "It was like, it was like riding a bike, you know? It was really exciting to know I still had my chops. I still felt good. I could still make it around the kit. Everything felt right, so, I'm thankful to be able to play."
