Lee Ritenour Close To Release Of Classical Collaboration CD
Guitarist Lee Ritenour has teamed up with pianist Dave Grusin once again for the classical crossover project, Amparo, due in September on Decca. The special project CD also features guest appearances by trumpeter Chris Botti, vocalists James Taylor, soprano Renee Fleming, and violinist Joshua Bell.
This is the third collaboration between Ritenour and Grusin. The longtime friends released the Grammy nominated Two Worlds in 2000, and their first joint recording was 1986's Harlequin.
Grusin also made a guest appearance on Ritenour's Smoke n Mirrors release. The two have a long relationship, as Ritenour explained: "Dave is just such a legendary piano player, you know, he's an Oscar winner, I think he's got about 12 Grammys and he's just made so many of his own great albums. We've done so many collaborations together. He's really my best friend and we've collaborated since I was 18."
Ritenour and Grusin are already lining up orchestra dates for the fall to support Amparo.
