Kirk Whalum To Be Inducted Into Nashville Cirty Walk

Kirk WhalumKirk Whalum will be inducted into Music City Walk Of Fame in Nashville this on April 20th. The saxophonist lived in Nashville for about a decade before returning to his hometown of Memphis. Whalum's jazz contributions to the city's musical legacy will be recognized with a marker at a commemorative ceremony at 3 o'clock in Hall of Fame Park.

Also being honored on the Walk Of Fame will be country acts the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Steven Curtis Chapman, Hank Williams Sr., Steve Wariner, and Merle Kilgore.

Whalum says that receiving major industry awards is not as important to him as comments from fans. He previously noted: "I actually have -- including my gospel records and a collaboration with Bob James and a CD that's about to come out with Norman Brown and Rick Braun -- I have 14 CDs. I can think of so many worse ways to make a living than doing something I love. Every time a fan comes up and says, 'Man, I love your music, your music impacts me,' that's all the award I need, man, that's more than I deserve."

Whalum's most recent CD is 2007's Round Trip.
