Grammy winner John Legend unveiled a brand-new song on August 25th during an appearance on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Denver. The singer and songwriter performed the tune "If You're Out There" during the opening night ceremonies at the Pepsi Center.
Legend intended the song as an "anthemic call-to-action and evocation of human potential," according to a statement. It includes such lines as "We're the generation / We can't afford to wait / The future started yesterday and we're already late."
"If You're Out There" was produced by Trevor Horn and Devo Springsteen, and features the Agape Choir.
Fans will be able to check out the song via the Web site my.barackobama.com. It can also be purchased at iTunes.
The track will also be found on Legend's upcoming CD Evolver, which is due October 28th on Columbia.
Asked about what inspired his songwriting, Legend said: "Life inspires me. I'm just trying to tell good stories and tell it in a way that musically I respond to and the other people can respond to as well."
