Singing star John Legend has snapped back at those who criticize his habit of dating models. The Grammy winner is currently dating Thai-Norwegian catwalker Christina Teigen, whom he met on the video shoot for his single "Stereo."
"People are automatically condescending," Legend told the New York Daily News. "They expect her to be dumb and say, 'Oh you're just dating a dumb girl because she's hot.' But people judge you either way. If you're dating a girl who's kind of regular, you hear, 'Why are you dating her?' I don't get caught up in it. I'm more concerned with my happiness."
Legend -- who celebrated his 29th birthday in Vegas with Teigen recently -- hasn't been dating too many "regular" girls since his debut, Get Lifted, broke through. His previous relationship was with Brazilian model Danielle Abreu.
In the meantime, Legend is staying true to his music. He will launch his Home School label with the debut of English singer-songwriter Estelle next month, and has already begun work on his third CD. Legend says that he does feel a certain amount of creative pressure: "Every time you come out, you know, the pressure's on to some extent. You still gotta keep it coming, you can't relax (laughs). I'm a relaxed person, but I still have the drive, even more than ever, to trying to top myself."
Legend says he'll probably release his follow-up to 2007's Grammy-winning Once Again later this summer. Fans can go to Target stores to pick up the exclusive release Live In Philadelphia.
