Joey Bishop Dies At 89

Comedian Joey Bishop, the last surviving member of Frank Sinatra\'s "Rat Pack," died Wednesday (October 17th) night of multiple causes at the age of 89. Bishop, who was born Joseph Abrama Gottlieb, was called "the Hub of the Big Wheel" by Sinatra for his barbed one-liners and his signature intro phrase, "Son of a gun!"

"He was the perfect match for the Rat Pack. He fit right in like an old shoe," Hollywood\'s honorary mayor, Johnny Grant, told the Associated Press yesterday (October 18th).

Bishop appeared with fellow Rat Packers Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin in such films as Ocean\'s Eleven and Sergeants 3, and was master of ceremonies at honorary Rat Packer John F. Kennedy\'s inaugural gala. His solo efforts included the 1961 sitcom The Joey Bishop Show, and the 1967 series of the same name, in which he was a talk show host. His sidekick on the show was Regis Philbin.

Bishop later filled in for Johnny Carson as the Tonight Show host 205 times.

He leaves behind his son Larry Bishop, grandchildren Scott and Kirk Bishop, and longtime companion Nora Garabotti.
