Veteran actor Joe Mantegna is taking over as the star of CBS's Criminal Minds. Mantegna fills the void left by Mandy Patinkin, who bailed earlier this summer due to "creative differences."
Mantegna's character, FBI Special Agent David Rossi, will be introduced in the fifth episode of the new season. According to CBS, the backstory on Rossi is that he was an original member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit "who took an early retirement to go on lecture and book tours." He volunteered to return to the unit.
Mantegna has appeared in Joan Of Arcadia, several episodes of The Simpsons as Fat Tony, this summer's The Starter Wife, and House Of Games.
