Saxophonist Jimmy Sommers, Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Gordon Chambers, Grammy-nominated artist Vikter Duplaix, and vocalist Lynne Fiddmont are banding together for a national tour under the name Jazzy Soul Collective. The group has two confirmed concert dates, with more to be announced later.
Sommers recently released his new CD Sunset Collective, the follow-up to his star-studded 2005 set Lovelife. The lead-off single, "Happy Hour," features guitarist Paul Brown, who also co-wrote the tune. Other guests include vocalist Rahsaan Patterson, keyboardists Kenneth Crouch and Brian Culbertson, and British DJ/producer Paul Oakenfold.
Chambers released his second solo set, Love Stories, last year. The artist has written material for numerous pop, R&B and jazz artists, including Freddy Jackson, Brownstone, Anita Baker, Yolanda Adams, Patti LaBelle, and others. He earned a Grammy for Baker's tune "I Apologize." He is currently working with Patti Austin on her next album.
Fiddmont is a veteran background singer who has recorded and toured with Stevie Wonder, Babyface, Phil Collins and others. Formerly part of the '90s duo Linsey, Fiddmont recently wrote and performed material for her 2007 debut Flow.
Duplaix is a popular Philadelphia composer and producer who has worked with Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and others. He also collaborated with Sommers on Sunset Collective. Duplaix's song "Make A Baby" from his second full-length album, Bold & Beautiful, is nominated for the 2008 Grammy's in the Urban Alternative category.
The Jazzy Soul Collective will perform February 17th at The Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, Virginia, and February 18th at BB King's Nightclub in New York City. More dates will be announced shortly.
