Jeff Lorber Funks It Up On 'Heard That'

Jeff LorberKeyboardist Jeff Lorber's latest CD, Heard That, gives the jazz and R&B veteran a chance to show off his skills in both music genres. Equally talented on acoustic piano, synth, and organ, Lorber explains that he wanted to keep the organic feel of old school funk in the recording.

Electric piano and organ, as well as some bass work figure into the project, said Lorber: "I did a lot of the bass on this record, which is a little bit unusual 'cause I used to do that a lot, of playing all the bass, synthesized bass. And this record has more of it than I've using doing in recent years. But, you know-- and then keeping the keyboards pretty organic, too mostly, it's Rhodes and piano and Wurlitzer and it's the real deal. "

Lorber's current hit is a version of Amy Winehouse's Grammy winning tune "Rehab."
