Jeff Kashiwa has a full plate these days, performing live dates with his own band Coastal Access, as well as with The Rippingtons, Acoustic Alchemy, and now the triple-threat package the Sax Pack with Kim Waters and Steve Cole. But the saxophonist stretches his talents even further with both live and virtual session work.
Kashiwa says that the technology revolution that allows people to share audio files over the Internet has allowed him to be productive without having to travel or move to a music center like Los Angeles or New York. He said: "I do sessions for other people, I record with the Rippingtons, with Acoustic Alchemy, and then also up and coming guys who are working on demo projects, I lend my services to them as well. Basically I'm a gun for hire. And every one of those sessions comes through e-mail. Like, 'OK. hey, can you do this?' 'Sure.' And they send me an mp3 of the thing they want me to play on top of, I put it into my Pro-Tools rig, record it, and I send them back my hi-res file, and off we go."
Kashiwa's Sax Pack has the Number Two smooth jazz single on the radio charts with the tune "Fallin' For You."
