Saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa makes a welcome return to the smooth jazz market with the new album Play this week. The new set features the single "Forever."
The Pacific Northwest native says that he named the new CD Play to reflect a back-to-basics approach to music that also incorporates fun, without bowing to the dictates of the commercial arena. Kashiwa explained: "Play is a return to the beginning of, you know ... Instead of strategizing like: We should do a song like this so we'll get played on the radio, or we should do a song like this because I think it sounds like this other moneymaking hit, you know what I mean. That's really putting the cart before the horse as far as I'm concerned. So with Play, it's all about passion about playfulness and joyfulness in music."
Kashiwa's previous album was 2004's Peace Of Mind, featuring the singles "Ecstasy" and "Peace Of Mind."
