Jeff Golub Tops Chart With Four Tops' 'Ain't No Woman'
Smooth Jazz guitarist Jeff Golub attained the Number One spot on the smooth jazz airplay charts last week with his version of "Ain't No Woman (Like The One I've Got)" featuring saxophonist Richard Elliot. The tune is from Golub's CD, Grand Central.
"Ain't No Woman" was originally a hit for Motown group The Four Tops in 1972. Golub admits that topping the charts with a previous hit is satisfying, but probably more satisfying for the original songwriter. He laughed: "I have to actually make a sacrifice on my profitability, that's all. I don't quite make as much off of this because I didn't write the songs. And songwriters make a lot of money off of record sales. I'm sure all of these people are very happy that I do their songs and they keep making money off of them."
