J.K. Rowling Named Entertainer of the Year

J.K. RowlingHarry Potter creator J.K. Rowling has been named the Entertainer of the Year by Entertainment Weekly, which features her on the cover of their current magazine. Rowling, who generated $15 billion from the sale of nearly 400 million copies of the Potter series and the subsequent film adaptations, was given the nod for getting "people to tote around her big, old-fashioned printed-on-paper books as if they were the hottest new entertainment devices on the planet."

George Clooney was named valedictorian in the listings -- which were separated by school-type cliques -- because he's "deftly balanced box-office viability with personal responsibility." Other valedictorians were The Sopranos, Angelina Jolie, Will Smith, and Tommy Lee Jones.

Matt Damon, Carrie Underwood, Katherine Heigl, Johnny Depp and Kanye West were named the popular kids, while relative newcomers Zac Efron, Shia LaBeouf, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus were dubbed the prodigies.

Class clown honors went to Tina Fey, Vanessa Williams, director Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd.

Most buzz-worthy were Amy Winehouse, Gerard Butler, Tyler Perry, and the A&E series Mad Men.

The Cable Queens were Mary-Louise Parker, Kyra Sedgwick, Glenn Close and Holly Hunter, all of whom found life after film on cable TV.
