Grammy winning keyboardist Herbie Hancock has joined the performing lineup for the maiden voyage of this summer's North Sea Jazz Cruise, hosted by bassist Marcus Miller. Hancock will perform aboard Holland America line's m/s Rotterdam as it sails from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Rotterdam, the Netherlands from July 13th to July 15th. The ship stops at several European ports along the way, and then becomes a "floating hotel" for guests to attend the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam through July 17th.
"Herbie Hancock is one of the most influential pianists in modern jazz and has been for the last 40 years," stated Miller. "I've had the pleasure of touring with him recently and it's an incredible experience. He discovers something new on stage every night and I'm thrilled that he will be on our stage for the North Sea Jazz Cruise."
The lineup already features vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater and her trio, saxophonist James Carter, trumpeter Roy Hargrove and his quintet, the Roberta Gambarini Quartet, guitarist Lionel Loueke, the McCoy Tyner Trio, Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood and saxophonists David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum.
