French actor Gerard Depardieu lost his 37-year-old son to pneumonia on October 13th. The Associated Press reported that Guillaume (PR: gee-YOME) Depardieu, who was also an actor, died a day after checking into a French hospital after he was suddenly struck with the disease.
The younger Depardieu had a history of trouble with the law for speeding and drugs, and served time in jail earlier this year for a drunk-driving conviction.
His right leg was amputated in 2003 as result of a hospital infection that developed during operations to recover from a motorbike accident in 1995.
Although Guillaume accused his father of taking little interest in him while he was growing up, the 2002 film Aime ton pere (Love Your Father), in which they both starred, indicated that the relationship showed signs of improvement.
Guillaume Depardieu won the award for the most promising young actor at the Cesar awards in 1996 for his role in Les Apprentis.
