Gerald Veasley Maintaining Balance With 'Your Move'
Bassist Gerald Veasley says that like many musicians these days, he's got to be good at more than just performing to keep his career on track. At the same time, he is committed to keeping up his chops by practicing every day.
Veasley, who just released the CD Your Move, is also a Philadelphia radio personality on WJJZ, runs the Gerald Veasley JazzBase club in Reading, Pennsylvania, and keeps up a performing and teaching schedule. He explained: "I've made a commitment the last few months to really not letting anything take away from my daily practice. You know, all the different things I'm involved in -- trying to be a bandleader, and I do a radio show, and I've got the club, I teach, I got the Bass Bootcamp. And oh, yeah, I have to be a good husband and father. Sometimes you look back at the end of the day and say, Oh -- I didn't get a chance to practice."
Veasley's current single is the tune "Slip N Slide," which was written and co-produced by guitarist Chuck Loeb. The tune recently reached Number 28 on the national smooth jazz airplay chart.
