George Benson To Perform Tribute To Nat King Cole

George BensonGrammy winner George Benson will perform a special one-off concert, "A Tribute To Nat 'King' Cole." The show, part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic jazz series, is set for February 15th at Walt Disney Hall in L.A. Tickets for the event range from $35 to $135.

Benson revealed that a group of French producers had approached him a few years ago about doing an album of jazz vocal standards that made him think about performing in the style of Cole, who is one of his all-time vocal idols. The "Breezin'" performer admitted that while no one can perform quite the way Cole did, he would have welcomed the opportunity to try.

He explained: "Nat Cole was the master at that thing, everything that he touched, you know, he did it with suave and class. And an album like that would allow me to step into that category -- not that I can touch Nat Cole, I don't think anybody can. But I sure would love to do something along those lines, I think it would do very well in the market."

Benson's last release was the Grammy-winning Givin' It Up with veteran vocalist Al Jarreau.
