Veteran smooth jazz guitarist and vocalist George Benson will be honored as an NEA Jazz Master at the 2009 NEA Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony & Concert on October 15th at Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.
Benson joins a field of honorees that includes Jimmy Cobb, Lee Konitz, "Snooky" Young, "Toots" Thielemans, and Rudy Van Gelder at the event, which will feature a tribute concert by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
The concert will also include video biographies of each 2009 NEA Jazz Master as well as a jam session with previously named NEA Jazz Masters and the 2009 honorees.
