Everette Harp is earning smooth jazz radio play for his single "Just As You Are" from his 2006 CD In The Moment. It's been a little while since the busy saxophonist has gained entry onto radio playlists, despite consistently releasing strong albums.
Harp says he makes albums for the fans and not for commercial considerations, but radio play does help get the word out. Harp says a musician can't help but be affected personally if radio doesn't respond to their output: "Regardless of what I tell you, and I can sit here and say, 'Oh, if they don't play my record, I don't care. I'm still selling records, I don't care.' But rejection hurts. It depends on what level it hurts, how many levels it hurts. But it will affect you."
"Just As You Are" was most recently at Number 29 on the smooth jazz airplay chart.
Harp is set to deliver a new CD titled My Inspiration on August 28th.
