Eric Darius Says He Was Concerned About Fitting In At Blue Note
Saxophonist Eric Darius is pleased with the reaction to his latest CD, Goin' All Out, his first for the legendary Blue Note label. The twenty-something artist admits that he was a little worried at first that his contemporary sound might not fit the Blue Note image.
Darius explained: "Obviously Blue Note is a legendary label, they've been around for many years and a lot of classic, timeless jazz CDs have come through Blue Note. So when I started working on this project and I approached them about the concept, that I wanted to go for a younger sound, something that was really pushing the boundaries and more cutting edge, I wasn't sure how they were gonna react to that. But they were very, very flexible and that's exactly what they wanted."
Darius is on the smooth jazz airplay chart with the title track single, "Goin' All Out."
The saxophonist is slated to perform at a handful of events at the Democratic National Convention taking place next month in Denver. For more on his schedule, go to ericdarius.com.
