Narada Jazz has released Down To The Bone: Celebrating 10 Years Of Groove, a collection of the British acid jazz collective's best known tracks from their decade of recording. The single-disk set was released earlier this month.
The smooth jazz set compiles eleven tracks, including Down To The Bone's first Stateside hit, "Staten Island Groove," as well as "Cellar Funk," "The Zodiac," "Black Choice," "Gotta Get Back To You," "Brooklyn Heights," "Electra Glide," "I'll Always Hold You Close" featuring Brian Augur, "Carlito's Way," "Pure Funk," and "Long Way From Brooklyn."
All the tracks were produced by Stuart Wade, who also compiled the collection.
Wade says he's glad the band has built a strong following, but admits that defining the music can be a bit difficult. Wade told us: "Well you've got your traditionalists who think the style of music I'm doing is nothing to do with jazz and stuff like that. And then you've got your more crossover crowds, who sort of like the traditional styles but are also influenced by the more up-to-date grooves and the more commercial side of it. So I see the music that I'm doing as not strictly jazz but is making it more accessible to those sort of people who are slightly more open-minded."
