David Benoit Says 'Heroes' Describes His Feeling About Influential Artists

David BenoitDavid Benoit will deliver his new CD, Heroes, on May 27th. The new set features Benoit's keyboard versions of pop and jazz tunes that have influenced him over the years. Included are versions of tunes by The Doors, Elton John, Dave Grusin, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson and others.

Benoit says that he had a bit of a struggle coming up with a name that fit the project he envisioned. He explained: "First I thought maybe it could be a piano album or a jazz piano tribute album and then I got to thinking that that was too limiting because there were other artists that weren't necessarily piano players that had a big influence on me. And then I thought I'd call it 'Under The Influence,' and that was OK, but 'Heroes' seemed to be more compelling because it seemed to go deeper."

The first single from Heroes, a version of the 1982 Michael Jackson tune "Human Nature," is currently at Number 26 and rising fast on the national smooth jazz singles chart.
