Saxophonist, radio personality, and record label co-founder Dave Koz is going into next weekend's 50th anniversary Grammy Awards ceremony with optimism. The artist's At The Movies orchestral salute to the music of film has been nominated for a coveted golden gramophone in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category.
Koz was also nominated for his version of "Over The Rainbow" from that project in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category.
Between the two categories, Koz's competition includes Kirk Whalum, Chris Botti, the Beastie Boys, Spyro Gyra, Joni Mitchell, and Ben Harper.
The saxophonist notes that it is indeed an honor to be nominated, particularly during this anniversary year. He added: "Any time that you can have something that you did, a piece of work or whatever recognized by your peers, that alone is very cool. Of course it would be lovely to win, but I look at the categories I'm in, they're pretty chock full of some serious talent, and kind of all over the board too. So I'm really not so sure who's gonna walk away with it, but I'm planning on having a great time."
Koz will release the special expanded At The Movies Double Feature DVD/CD set on Tuesday, February 12th. The package will include two bonus tracks, as well as footage of Koz performing music from the album with special guests Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow, and Peter White.
