Saxophonist Dave Koz has received two Grammy nominations for his all star orchestral album At The Movies. The CD was nominated in the best pop instrumental album category, while his version of the Wizard Of Oz favorite "Over The Rainbow" was nominated in the best pop instrumental performance race. Koz says he\'s gratified to receive the nominations, particularly during the year that the Grammy Awards celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Asked about his nominations, Koz said: "It\'s just a cool thing to be included in that group, especially for the fiftieth anniversary. This is the fiftieth Grammys and I think it\'s going to be quite a party, period. So to be invited to be a part of it as a nominee is extremely cool -- for me!"
The popular instrumentalist and radio host added that he is relieved by the news that the striking Hollywood writers decided to issue a waiver to the Grammy Awards production team for the show to go on using union writers. Koz says there was a lot of concern about the issue, but notes that writers and musicians share a lot of the same issues. He said: "I was worried, the producers and I know for sure NARAS was incredibly concerned A lot is riding on this, This is the fiftieth anniversary of the Grammy awards, not the years you want to be preempted because of a strike, That being said -- absolute support for our striking brothers and sisters. But songwriters and artists share a lot of the same interests and a lot of the same concerns."
Koz is lining up more tour dates, including a special performance this spring with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of special conductor Marvin Hamlisch, That performance is set for May 15th, 16th and 17th at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
