The co-executor of James Brown's will who was accused misappropriating $350,000 of Brown's money appeared in court and offered a check for the missing funds. The Associated Press reported that on Friday, (August 10th), David Cannon resigned Friday as co-executor of Brown's estate during a four-hour hearing before Circuit Judge Jack Early. Another hearing is set for September 24th in an attempt to settle the estate of the "Godfather of Soul."
An attorney representing several of Brown's children said that it is still unclear how much money Brown left behind, but that prior to his death on December 25th, Brown, who was 73, was on a budget of $100,000 per month.
The battle over Brown's money goes beyond the infighting between his relatives. Brown's former pastor Reverend Larry Fryer has filed a motion to protect the money that Brown had intended to benefit his "I Feel Good" Trust, to benefit underprivileged children. Brown had set up another trust for his grandchildren's college education.
DNA testing has recently verified two additional children of Brown.
