Chaka Khan's newly released CD, Funk This!, not only represents her first album of R&B material in a decade, but her first album collaboration with Grammy-winning producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
The production duo has forged hits for Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Usher, and Gwen Stefani, to name just a few. Khan says she considered the experience of recording at Jam & Lewis' L.A.-based Flyte Tyme studio to be "brilliant," as she explained: "They are just phenomenal. They're like gurus, and philosophers, and geniuses, and big brothers, fathers, you know, all of that. And we became like an extended family and it was really a beautiful thing. It was really brilliant."
Khan's latest effort includes original material as well as covers of songs made famous by Joni Mitchell, Prince, Carly Simon, Jimi Hendrix, Dee Dee Warwick, and her first recording entity, Rufus.
The singer is currently climbing the urban adult charts with "Angel," while smooth jazz is enjoying her duet of "You Belong To Me" with its co-writer, Michael McDonald.
