Johnny Depp will play notorious 1930s gangster John Dillinger in Michael Mann's upcoming film Public Enemies. Mann also wrote the movie's screenplay, which is adapted from Bryan Burrough's 2004 book of the same name. Shooting will begin March 10th in Chicago.
Actor Ray Liotta has pleaded no contest to reckless driving as part of a deal with Los Angeles prosecutors, city spokesman Frank Mateljan said Thursday. The Goodfellas star, who was arrested after driving into two parked cars in the Pacific Palisades section of L.A., was initially charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He would have faced up to six months in jail if convicted. Under the terms of his plea, Liotta was placed on three years' probation and ordered to enter a 12-hour alcohol education program.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who along with Spice Girl Melanie Brown finished second on this season's Dancing With the Stars, assured fans that he is not quitting the show as he'd suggested recently. After saying last week that he wanted to bail on the popular ABC series, the dancer told People magazine that his comments were made at a time when he was stressed and he regrets having spoke out. "I am not turning my back on the show," he told People. "I don't want people to feel betrayed. I love this show."
Irish prosecutors dropped charges against actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers on December 5th for being drunk and abusive at Dublin Airport. After Meyers expressed remorse about the incident -- through his lawyer, prosecutors accepted his apology and was given only a legal caution. Meyers was arrested on November 18th for public drunkenness and breach of peace after he was refused permission to board a flight to London.
Kevin Spacey will replace Tommy Lee Jones as the co-host of next week's Nobel Peace Prize concert. Uma Thurman will share hosting duties with him at the December 11th concert featuring Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys and Melissa Etheridge. Jones, who was Nobel Prize winner Al Gore's former roommate, pulled out due to undisclosed personal reasons.
Former American Idol finalist Jessica Sierra has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an altercation with Tampa police officers outside a nightclub last weekend. Sierra is charged with disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest and violating conditions of her parole on earlier felony battery and possession charges. She is being held without bail at least until her next hearing, which is scheduled for December 20.
Victoria Beckham confessed to Elle magazine that she can't keep her clothes on around her soccer stud husband. "You don't sleep with David Beckham," she told the magazine's January issue. "I'm going to be naked if I'm getting in bed with him every night." The Spice Girl also expressed her delight at the group's current reunion for the sake of her three sons. "I wanted my children to see that Mummy was a pop star. It was the last opportunity for them to stand in a crowd full of people screaming for the Spice Girls."
Actor Gary Collins pleaded no contest to DUI charges on December 6th and was sentenced to 96 hours in jail. A Los Angeles judge also sentenced him to four years of probation, fined him $500, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, enroll in an alcohol education program and attend 26 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Collins was arrested after crashing into a car driven by an 89-year-old man in October.
