Saxophonist Candy Dulfer says that despite recent reports, she's not angry with Prince. The Minneapolis superstar had asked Dulfer to perform with him during his recent string of 21 dates at London's O2 Stadium, but when Dutch-born Dulfer showed up to the gig, she was told her services weren't required.
Dulfer has toured with Prince many times before, and was looking forward to performing music from her own new CD, Candy Store, during the August dates. Though she had traveled from her home in the Netherlands to make it to the shows, she says Prince had simply overbooked his special guests.
Said Dulfer: "He just got a little overwhelmed with everything. And the first gig he did, they watched the tapes, and he had sort of invited everybody and the kitchen sink to come to the shows and have fun, like The Time and Sheila E. and everybody, and it was just too much and I can understand that. I told him, you should always go for the music and if it's not what you thought it would be then you should, you know, skip it."
The cancellation actually ended up giving Dulfer some much-needed time off. She added: "I don't know, I think it's a blessing in disguise. And we're good. I mean, he was really nice to me and he apologized, and that's the only thing I need, you know. He's just only human, he can change his mind if he wants to. There's no real stories. But definitely we're gonna do stuff more in the future and no hard feelings."
Dulfer's new CD, Candy Store, will be released September 18th in the U.S. The first single is "L.A. City Lights."
