Cab Calloway, Burt Bacharach, Max Roach to Receive Special Grammys
The Recording Academy, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Grammy Awards next year, has announced its slate of Lifetime Achievement Grammy honorees. Among them are iconic bandleader and showman Cab Calloway, best known for his 1931 hit "Minnie The Moocher"; pop songwriter and producer Burt Bacharach, whose catalog includes enduring classics like "Close To You," "Walk On By," and hundreds of others; and jazz drum innovator Max Roach, who died earlier this year.
Also receiving lifetime achievement honors are '50s and '60s singer-actress Doris Day, violinist Itzhak Perlman, Canadian rock group The Band, and country artist Earl Scruggs.
The Lifetime Achievement Grammys will be presented during a special ceremony on February 9th in Los Angeles. They will be acknowledged on the televised 50th anniversary Grammy Awards presentation on February 10th from Staples Center in Los Angeles.
