Singer and songwriter Brian McKnight is busy rehearsing for his debut on Broadway. The singer will portray lawyer Billy Flynn in the popular revival of Chicago with a warm-up engagement starting September 25th in Washington, D.C., before moving on to New York City in October.
McKnight has been better known as a singer and songwriter, and his most recent CD, Ten, featured such top-charting singles as "Find Myself In You" and "She Used To Be My Girl." McKnight says he is always surprised to discover how fans interpret the words to his songs. He explained: "I make the lyrics very specific. And what I wanted to figure out is if people really listened and understand lyrics. And I've come to find out that very few actually do. They listen to one part of the song and they figure it out from that, which is usually the chorus. And, I say you gotta dig a little deeper, a little deeper."
McKnight's appearance in the Chicago touring company at the Warner Theatre in Washington runs from September 25th through October 7th. The singer will arrive at Broadway's Ambassador Theatre to join the New York cast on October 8th. McKnight's stay in Chicago is currently scheduled last through November 18th.
