Brian Culbertson Expands his Band In Order to Bring Back the Funk

Brian CulbertsonKeyboardist and trombonist Brian Culbertson says he definitely had to beef up his band in order to play music from his top-charting CD, Bringing Back The Funk, on the road for fans. In order to perform tracks from the set -- a celebration of classic funk sounds executive-produced by Maurice White -- he has engaged an 11-piece band.

Culbertson was helped in producing the project by former Earth, Wind & Fire guitarist Sheldon Reynolds, and welcomed a broad array of guests on the set. Those include Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham, Musiq Soulchild, Ledisi, Gerald Albright, Maceo Parker, Tony Maiden, Ray Parker Jr., Ronnie Laws, Tom Scott, Paul Jackson Jr., and others.

Culbertson described his touring group: "The touring band, I had to expand to be able to do this record. Brought in an additional guitar player. I got a new sax player who's also an incredible lead singer, sings all the lead vocals. I have a full horn section, four horns coming. And Sheldon Reynolds is in the band as well, still, he's singing all the parts he did on the record. So it's an 11-piece band, actually."

Culbertson's next show will be September 5th at Santa Fe Station in Las Vegas. For more on his schedule, go to brianculbertson.com.
